Pixel Tribe's Goddess Order: An Interview
Droid Gamers: What inspires your pixel sprites?
Ilsun: The high-quality pixel art in Goddess Order aims for a console-level aesthetic, prioritizing storytelling. Inspiration draws from a vast well of games and narratives, focusing on the subtle nuances of experience rather than direct imitation. The process is collaborative; initial characters (Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan) emerged from solo work but were refined through team discussions, incorporating feedback from scenario writers and combat designers. Character concepts often begin with a narrative prompt, collaboratively developed and then brought to life in pixel art.
Droid Gamers: How do you approach world-building in a fantasy RPG?
Terron J.: World-building begins with the characters. Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan established the foundation. Their inherent personalities, roles, and missions shaped the narrative. The process felt organic, with the characters' stories unfolding naturally, influencing the game's manual control emphasis and scenario development.
Droid Gamers: How do you design combat styles and animations?
Terron J.: Goddess Order's combat system uses three characters with linked skills. Design focuses on creating unique roles for each character, ensuring strategic depth in battle formations. The team iteratively refines character abilities and controls, prioritizing combat dynamics and player experience.
Ilsun: Visually, the combat emphasizes dynamic movements, exceeding expectations for 2D pixel art. The team uses 3D movement as inspiration, creating a sense of depth. Physical props are used to study realistic weapon movements, informing the animation design.
Terron J.: Technical optimization is crucial for mobile performance. The team meticulously tests on various devices to ensure smooth gameplay and uninterrupted cutscenes, prioritizing a seamless player experience.
Droid Gamers: What's next for Goddess Order?
Ilsun: Future updates will expand on the story, including additional chapters and origin stories for the Lisbeth Knights. The team plans to add diverse activities like quests and treasure hunts, alongside advanced content that challenges players with refined controls. They welcome player feedback post-launch.
