Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director Discusses Mods, DLC Possibilities, and Improvements
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently offered insights into the game's PC release, addressing player interest in mods and potential DLC. Read on for details on the PC version's features and future.
No Immediate DLC Plans, but Player Demand Could Change That
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version of FF7 Rebirth, resource constraints prioritized completing the trilogy's final installment. In a December 13th Epic Games blog post interview, Hamaguchi stated that adding new content wasn't feasible at this time. However, he left the door open: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." Essentially, significant player demand could lead to future DLC.
A Message to the Modding Community: Creativity Welcomed, but Keep it Clean
Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community, acknowledging the inevitable influx of player-created modifications. While official mod support isn't present, he expressed respect for creative contributions, but cautioned against offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for creative and beneficial mods is vast, ranging from enhanced visuals to new gameplay elements. However, the director's request for responsible modding is understandable, given the potential for inappropriate content online.
PC Version Enhancements and Challenges
The PC version boasts improved graphics, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous criticisms about character models. Higher-end systems will benefit from significantly improved 3D models and textures beyond the PS5 capabilities.
Porting the mini-games presented a unique challenge, requiring extensive work to implement custom key configurations.
FF7 Rebirth, the second chapter in the Remake trilogy, originally launched for PS5 on February 9th, 2024, to widespread acclaim. The PC version arrives January 23rd, 2025, on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
