Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Skip Controversial PSN Linking Requirement
Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, is set to launch on PC in 2025 without the previously mandated PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking. This significant change expands the game's market reach, allowing Sony to sell the title in over 100 countries unsupported by PSN.
Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside emerged from PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony is publishing the game on both PS5 and PC, the initial implementation of mandatory PSN account linking for PC releases last year faced considerable player backlash. This requirement severely limited sales potential due to PSN's geographical limitations.
However, Lost Soul Aside's Steam page initially mentioning the PSN requirement was swiftly updated to remove it. This marks the second time Sony has reversed its PSN linking policy for a PC game, following a similar reversal for Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential shift in Sony's approach to PC releases.
While Sony's reasoning remains unclear, the decision likely prioritizes maximizing player reach and sales. The poor PC performance of some PlayStation titles following the PSN linking mandate, like God of War Ragnarok, may have influenced this decision. The removal of the requirement for Lost Soul Aside is welcome news for PC gamers in regions previously excluded from purchasing PlayStation PC titles. It also raises questions about the future of PSN account linking for other PlayStation PC releases.
