The DOOM community is known for pushing the boundaries of where the iconic shooter can be played, and the latest experiment is no exception. A tech-savvy enthusiast, going by the name NyanSatan, has successfully run the classic game on an Apple Lightning/HDMI adapter. This device, surprisingly, comes equipped with its own firmware based on iOS and a processor capable of reaching up to 168 MHz. To achieve this feat, NyanSatan first accessed the adapter's firmware and then used a MacBook to transfer the necessary files, as the adapter itself lacks sufficient memory.
In other DOOM-related news, the upcoming installment, DOOM: The Dark Ages, promises to offer a new level of accessibility and customization. According to executive producer Marty Stratton, the game will allow players to adjust the aggression of demons within the settings, aiming to make the experience as inclusive as possible. This iteration will provide players with extensive customization options, far surpassing those found in previous id Software projects. Players can modify various aspects such as enemies' damage and difficulty, projectile speed, the damage they receive, the game's tempo, level of aggression, and even the timing for parrying.
Stratton also emphasized that DOOM: The Dark Ages is designed to be standalone, ensuring that newcomers can dive into its narrative without needing prior knowledge from DOOM: Eternal. This approach aims to make the game accessible to a broader audience while still offering the intense action that DOOM fans crave.
