How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria
To embark on a romantic journey with Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*, you'll need to break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you must offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing the offering, a cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or risk being sealed yourself. As your health dwindles, Caldarus heroically intervenes, transforming into his human form and gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. Once in this form, you can interact with him through gifts and daily conversations, much like other dateable NPCs in Mistria.
After breaking the Fire Seal, you'll find Caldarus exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. To permanently unlock this area on your map, you'll need to use the Dragon’s Breath spell.
Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria
With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with six hearts upon being unlocked as a romanceable character, which is the current heart level cap. Unfortunately, there are no additional heart events available for Caldarus at this time. However, future updates may bring more events to deepen your connection.
Currently, there are a few cutscenes involving Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing the magic system and gameplay mechanics. The second occurs after you break the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves you from being sealed, reveals his human form, and then retreats to recover in the Deep Woods. Both scenes are part of the game's natural story progression.
Following the March 2025 update, you can also trigger a special date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.
The Shooting Star Festival
The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in *Fields of Mistria*, offering a chance to take any romanceable NPC with four or more hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts at six hearts, you're automatically eligible to attend with him. To do so, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterward to confirm your participation. This will initiate a cutscene where you enjoy the festival together.
During your date at the Summit, Caldarus will thank you for the invitation and share insights on the stars and the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. Your conversation may touch on existential themes, such as the nature of connections and the necessity of villains in stories. As the evening progresses, Caldarus, feeling a bit fatigued, invites you to watch the stars from his temple.
