Slaying monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is exhilarating, but sometimes you need more than just a kill—you need to capture them to harvest all their valuable parts. Here's how to successfully capture monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Capturing Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds
The process is surprisingly straightforward. Weaken the monster, trap it, then tranquilize it. Simple, right?
Your Palico will alert you when a monster is sufficiently weakened. Other indicators include a skull icon appearing above the monster on your minimap, and visible signs of distress like limping or excessive drooling.
Once the monster shows signs of weakness, deploy your trap. Use either a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap, strategically placing it on the ground. Lure the weakened monster over the trap. Once trapped, the monster will be incapacitated for a short time—your window to use Tranq Bombs. Typically, one or two Tranq Bombs will suffice. Alternatively, craft Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blades, depending on your weapon and preferred playstyle.
Successfully capturing a monster will automatically end the quest, returning you to Base Camp.
How to Get Traps and Tranq Items
While your Palico might occasionally set traps, it's best to carry your own. There are two trap types: Pitfall Traps and Shock Traps. A Pitfall Trap requires a Trap Tool and a Net (Spiderwebs or Ivy). A Shock Trap needs a Trap Tool and a Thunderbug Capacitor.
For tranquilizers, craft Tranq Bombs using a Sleep Herb and a Parashroom. These bombs can be combined with Throwing Knives for Tranq Blades or Normal Ammo for Tranq Ammo.
