The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the acclaimed release of The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.
Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, takes center stage as the next generation of Witchers steps into the spotlight. The teaser showcases Ciri intervening in a village gripped by superstitious fear, where a young woman is to be sacrificed to a monster. Ciri's actions reveal a far more complex situation than initially apparent.
While no official release date is set, considering the development times of previous titles (The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077), a three-to-four-year timeframe is plausible. Given this projected timeline, The Witcher 4 is likely to be a current-generation console exclusive, targeting PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A Switch port, while successful for The Witcher 3, seems less likely, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.
Though gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer hints at familiar elements such as potions, signs, and combat. A new addition may be Ciri's chain, used for both trapping monsters and channeling magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, fueling speculation that he might act as a mentor to Ciri. The trailer features Geralt's voice, further supporting this theory.
