According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was set to launch this year, alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the project was scrapped this week due to concerns over the content's value relative to the proposed price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment on this matter.
This decision comes amidst Warner Bros.' ongoing efforts to restructure its gaming division, which has been facing financial difficulties. Earlier in the year, the company canceled its anticipated Wonder Woman game and shut down the developer behind it, Monolith Productions, along with WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs occurred at Rocksteady Studios just last September.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the Harry Potter franchise and Hogwarts Legacy as key assets. The company has highlighted that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts focus to fewer but more significant franchises. The initial release of Hogwarts Legacy has been a commercial success, selling over 30 million copies.
