In the world of RPGs, leveling up is crucial, and Persona 5 Royal is no exception. Failing to level up your team can lead to struggles against late-game bosses, forcing you to grind in Mementos. Persona 5 Royal, an enhanced re-release of Persona 5, offers numerous quality-of-life improvements and adds over 20 hours of new content.
The game introduces a new semester for the Phantom Thieves and modifies some pre-existing boss fights. With all this new content, keeping your team's levels high and knowing the most efficient ways to gain experience is essential.
Updated on January 13, 2025, by Renri Seong: Being over-leveled can make Persona 5 Royal too easy, but you'll want to match the levels of Palace Rulers, especially on a new file. Several methods can make farming experience easier in P5R, from Confidant Skills to utilizing Jose in Mementos. Additionally, Joker can earn EXP for non-active Personas with a specific passive skill. This guide has been updated to include a new section on farming experience quickly using the Insta-kill ability.

Mishima Yuuki's Confidant
In Persona 5 Royal, players can enhance their EXP gain by downloading the free Team Glasses accessory from the PlayStation Store. These glasses boost EXP by 15% when equipped on each character. However, only Joker and three other Phantom Thieves can participate in battle, meaning those on the backline receive less experience.
To mitigate this, players should focus on increasing their bond with the Moon Confidant, Yuuki Mishima. Reaching Rank 3 and Rank 5 with Mishima ensures that backup team members gain EXP. Achieving Rank 10 allows backup members to earn the same amount of EXP as the front liners.
Progressing Mishima's Confidant is straightforward if players select dialogue options that resonate with him and bring a Persona of the Moon Arcana when spending time with him. In Persona 5 Royal, Mementos Missions are now linked to Mishima's Confidant, so neglecting these missions will hinder your ability to rank up with him.

Persona 5 Royal introduces Jose, a character who may not be central to the plot but significantly aids gameplay. Throughout Mementos, players can collect "flowers" and "Stamp Stations." These can be traded with Jose for various benefits, including altering the Cognition of Mementos.
In Jose's Shop under the Cognition menu, players can choose to increase EXP, Money Rewards, or Item Rewards within Mementos. Upgrading EXP to 110% requires 5 Stamps, while reaching the maximum of 200% costs 12 Stamps. With a total of 165 Stamps available in the game, players need 85 to max out EXP Up. Stamp Stations are found in "dead ends" behind breakable walls on Mementos floors, and players may encounter Jose when transitioning to a new floor.

What Level is the Reaper?
The Reaper, a formidable foe in the Persona series, appears in Mementos if players linger too long on a floor. Warning signs include a blinking red screen, the sound of chains, and alerts from Morgana or Futaba about an ominous presence.
Early in the game, defeating the Reaper is nearly impossible unless on a New Game+ file, due to his level 85 status and powerful -dyne tier spells and Support skills like Concentrate and elemental Breaks. His lowest stat is Agility at 75, yet it's sufficient to outpace the Phantom Thieves unless they're adequately prepared.
Defeating the Reaper yields a massive amount of experience and money, often resulting in a level up for all characters. It's advisable to challenge the Reaper at level 60 or above, equipped with Defense-raising Support skills and Makarakarn to reflect his magic. Alternatively, those with the Izanagi-no-Okami (Picaro) DLC can use Concentrate, Heat Riser, and Myriad Truths to deal significant Almighty damage.

How to Summon Treasure Demons
Treasure Demons, unique Shadows in Persona 5 Royal, first appear in Madarame's Palace and continue to spawn in the Metaverse. These non-aggressive Shadows will flee after a few turns, but defeating them is rewarding.
Each type of Treasure Demon has different Affinity Weaknesses and Immunities, though all are vulnerable to Almighty attacks. The best strategy to defeat them before they escape is using Shinya's Rank 1 Ability, Down Shot, to down them for an All-Out Attack. Another option is Morgana's Miracle Punch, a high-crit attack, provided the Treasure Demon isn't immune to Physical attacks.
Treasure Demons appear more frequently when Palace security is high. Players can also craft the Treasure Trap infiltration tool to boost encounters, requiring 2x Silk Yarn, 3x Plant Balm, and 1x Cork Bark.

How to Get Growth Passive Skill
In Persona 5 Royal, Personas not equipped by Joker at the end of a battle typically do not earn EXP. However, those with the Growth Passive Skill can still gain experience even if they're not used in combat. There are three levels of Growth Skills:
- Growth 1: Persona gains a quarter EXP when inactive.
- Growth 2: Persona gains half EXP when inactive.
- Growth 3: Persona will gain full EXP when inactive.
Personas that naturally learn Growth include:
- Growth 1: Saki Mitama (level 7), Koppa Tengu (level 12)
- Growth 2: Lachesis (Innate), Kurama Tengu (level 36), Thoth (level 42), Ananta (level 47)
- Growth 3: Izanagi (level 25), Izanagi Picaro (level 28), Narcissus (level 50), Raphael (level 81)
Once the Electric Chair is unlocked in the Velvet Room, players can turn Personas into Skill Cards. In Persona 5 Royal, only Izanagi Picaro can be used in the Electric Chair to obtain a Growth 3 Skill Card. Growth 1 Skill Cards are unavailable in P5R, while Growth 2 Skill Cards can be obtained by taking Caroline and Justine to Miura Beach from September 2nd to September 29th, after clearing event 6 (Sky Tower), and spending evenings with them by the Velvet Room Door outside Mementos.

How to Unlock Insta-Kill
Insta-kill is a powerful skill that allows Joker to instantly defeat a Shadow without entering combat. To use Insta-kill, you must ambush the enemy, and Joker's level must be 10 levels higher than the Shadow's. In Persona 5 Royal, a successful Insta-kill not only defeats the Shadow but also rewards items, yen, experience, and potentially a Persona, unlike in the original game.
To identify Shadows susceptible to Insta-kill, use Joker's Third Eye ability; those with a green outline are targets. To unlock Insta-kill, reach Rank 7 with Ryuji Sakamoto's Confidant. Ryuji's Confidant is one of the easiest to max out, with no Social Stat requirements. To expedite this process, spend time with Ryuji and choose dialogue options that maximize your points, ideally before unlocking other Confidants.
