Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5), a game released over a decade ago in September 2013, continues to dominate sales charts. Despite its age, it sold an impressive 5 million copies in the last three months alone, solidifying its place as one of the best-selling games of all time.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2), released in October 2018, also shows remarkable staying power. Sales figures climbed by 3 million copies in the last quarter, bringing its total to 70 million copies sold.
The enduring success of GTA 5 is significantly boosted by GTA Online, its ever-evolving multiplayer mode. Take-Two Interactive's commitment to ongoing updates, such as the December 2024 release of "Agents of Sabotage," keeps players engaged and returning for more.
Looking ahead, Take-Two has confirmed several highly anticipated releases. Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for a Fall 2025 launch, while Mafia: The Old Country is expected in Summer 2025 and Borderlands 4 later that year.
While concerns about potential delays for Grand Theft Auto VI are understandable, Take-Two's recent financial presentations reaffirm its planned autumn release. Similarly, Borderlands 4 is confirmed for release in 2025, although specific dates remain unannounced.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged Rockstar Games' meticulous development process, noting that it may sometimes require extra time, as seen with previous titles like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. This cautious approach, however, doesn't appear to significantly impact the projected release windows for these upcoming titles.
