DC Comics has announced Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series launching in May 2025, marking the return of Marvel Comics' acclaimed writer, Dan Slott, to DC. Slott, renowned for his work on Marvel titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, will be writing this new Superman series. While Slott previously contributed to DC books such as Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures, he's been primarily associated with Marvel for the past two decades.
The series pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott expressed his excitement, stating, “He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him… Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. If you’ve never read a Superman book, a DC book, or any comic book before—or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life—you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap and go all in than Superman Unlimited #1.”
Superman Unlimited introduces a perilous new reality for the Man of Steel. A Kryptonite asteroid shower blankets the planet, empowering enemies like Intergang with weapons exploiting Superman's greatest weakness. This forces Superman to develop innovative technology and combat strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski compared the series to Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman from the early 2000s, highlighting its grand-scale adventures. Kaminski emphasized the impact of the massive Kryptonite deposit, painting a picture of a world where even petty criminals wield Kryptonite-enhanced weapons. He further contrasted this with the Justice League Unlimited series, stating that while that series focuses on unlimited heroes, Superman Unlimited features unlimited, Kryptonite-empowered villains.
The series begins with a 10-page prelude in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1, releasing May 3, 2025. Superman Unlimited #1 follows on May 21, preceding the July 11 release of James Gunn's Superman film.
