HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will resurrect cut content from the original The Last of Us Part II video game, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Druckmann revealed the inclusion of "pretty brutal" material, including elements from the game's "Lost Levels," partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster. These levels, including "Jackson Party," "The Hunt," and "Seattle Sewers," offer diverse scenarios, ranging from the relatively peaceful (Ellie attending a party or tracking a boar) to the intense horror the series is known for (Ellie stalked by monsters in Seattle's tunnels).

This restored content promises a gripping experience. Druckmann hinted at a "pretty prominent" character, previously only mentioned in the game, making an appearance, echoing Season 1's handling of Frank. Season 2 introduces numerous new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, alongside Catherine O'Hara in a currently undisclosed role.
With Season 2's premiere slated for April, many mysteries await resolution. However, unlike the self-contained Season 1, HBO plans to adapt Part II across multiple seasons. Showrunner Craig Mazin stated that Part II's extensive narrative necessitates this approach. While a Season 3 isn't confirmed, Season 2 concludes with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
