Sadie Sink, best known for her role as Max Mayfield in the hit series *Stranger Things*, is set to join Tom Holland in the highly anticipated *Spider-Man 4*. According to Deadline, Sink, who debuted in the 2016 film *Chuck*, will feature in this upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) project, which is slated to begin filming later this year and is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. Both Marvel and Sony have remained tight-lipped on the matter, offering no comment when approached by Deadline.
Speculation is rife about Sink's role in *Spider-Man 4*, with suggestions leaning towards her portraying either the iconic X-Men character Jean Grey or another beloved redhead from the Spider-Man universe, possibly Mary Jane Watson. This casting choice raises questions about how it will mesh with Peter Parker's existing relationship with Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, portrayed by Zendaya in previous Spider-Man films. Given the significant role Sink is expected to play, *Spider-Man 4* might serve as a reset following the events of *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, where Peter had to reintroduce himself to MJ after Doctor Strange erased his identity from everyone's memory.
Tom Holland is currently engaged in filming Christopher Nolan's *The Odyssey*, and plans are in place for him to transition directly into shooting *Spider-Man 4* upon completion, as per Deadline's report.
Last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted at the integration of X-Men characters into the MCU's near future. Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige teased that fans would encounter "some X-Men players that you might recognize" in upcoming MCU films, though he remained coy about specifics. He also indicated that the narrative arc leading to *Secret Wars* would usher in a new era for mutants and the X-Men within the MCU.
The MCU has already introduced several mutants, and with films like *Captain America: Brave New World*, *Thunderbolts*, and *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* on the horizon, the stage is set for further mutant integration. Phase 6, featuring *Avengers: Doomsday*, *Spider-Man 4*, and *Avengers: Secret Wars*, is likely to see more mutant characters, possibly including the return of Deadpool and Wolverine, and even Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Feige emphasized the X-Men's pivotal role in the MCU's future post-*Secret Wars*, suggesting a significant focus on the team in Phase 7. Additionally, Storm's appearance in *What If...? Season 3* marks an early introduction of an X-Men character into the MCU's wider narrative.
Looking ahead, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule, fueling speculation that one of these slots could be reserved for an X-Men film.
