During Sony’s recent State of Play showcase, the announcement of Days Gone Remastered caught the attention of many, but it has stirred discontent among some PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony has clarified that the $10 upgrade to the remastered version on PlayStation 5 is exclusively available to those who own either the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, this means that individuals who redeemed the game through the PS Plus subscription service, including those who benefited from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or the Essential monthly game in April 2021, are not eligible for the discounted upgrade. They would have to purchase the PS5 remaster at the full price of $49.99.
This decision has sparked a wave of frustration and discussions online, particularly on the PlayStation Plus subreddit. Subscribers have expressed their disappointment, noting that they would have been willing to pay the $10 to experience the PS5 remaster but are now opting to forego the upgrade altogether. Comments from users like squarejellyfish_, who pointed out that Sony could have earned a significant amount if PS Plus players were eligible, reflect a sentiment that many share. Similarly, teckn9ne79 and dredizzle99 voiced their unwillingness to pay full price for the remaster but were open to the $10 upgrade option. Jackanyon95 criticized the move as "awkward" and unnecessary, stating they wouldn't pay full price for a game that, in their opinion, didn't require a remaster.
Despite the backlash, some PS Plus subscribers aren’t surprised by Sony’s approach, suggesting that the company likely made a financial calculation that this restriction would be beneficial. However, Sony has faced criticism and been labeled "stingy" by its loyal fans who hoped for a more generous approach from PlayStation.
