The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) has achieved an incredible feat, setting a new world record by opening 20,000 cards in a continuous 24-hour marathon. This remarkable achievement was accomplished with the assistance of popular internet personalities, showcasing the excitement and community spirit surrounding the latest Pokémon TCG expansion, Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks.

The Longest Unboxing Livestream to Date

The Pokémon Company shattered the existing record for the longest unboxing livestream in the Guinness World Records on November 26, 2024. This event was a celebration of the release of Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks, the newest expansion of the Pokémon TCG.

The marathon livestream, hosted on Pokémon's Twitch channel, featured well-known figures in the Pokémon community such as Serebii’s webmaster Joe Merrick, and social media influencers PokeGirl Ranch and Mayplaystv. Together, they opened 1,500 booster packs and explored other Pokémon products, amassing an estimated total of over 20,000 cards, as reported by Pokémon’s Official Press website.

Peter Murphy, Senior Director of the Marketing department at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his pride in this achievement, stating, “It’s been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we’re thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators.”

Additionally, the cards collected during this marathon will be organized into binders and donated to charities, including Barnardo’s in the UK, just in time for the holiday season.

The Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion was officially released on November 8, 2024, and introduces fans to the Terarium, a key location in Pokémon SV’s The Indigo Disk: DLC Part 2.
