The Pokémon GO Tour Pass: A Free and Paid Option Explained
Many Pokémon GO players are curious about the new Tour Pass, especially its cost. The exciting news is that a free version is available! Let's break down what the Tour Pass offers.
What is the Pokémon GO Tour Pass?
Introduced with the Pokémon GO Tour: Unova global event, the Tour Pass is a system of tasks and rewards. Complete tasks to earn Tour Points, which unlock rewards, boost your rank, and enhance event bonuses.
The free Tour Pass is automatically granted to all players starting February 24th at 10 AM local time. A paid version, the Tour Pass Deluxe ($14.99 USD or equivalent), offers an immediate Victini encounter, enhanced rewards, and faster progression.
Earning and Using Tour Points
Tour Points are earned by completing in-game activities like catching Pokémon, raiding, and hatching eggs, along with daily Pass Tasks. These points unlock rewards, increase your rank within the Tour Pass tiers, and unlock bonuses.
Higher ranks provide increased Catch XP bonuses:
- Tier 2: 1.5x Catch XP
- Tier 3: 2x Catch XP
- Tier 4: 3x Catch XP
While Niantic remains tight-lipped on all rewards, the free Tour Pass culminates in a Zorua encounter with a special background. The Tour Pass Deluxe's top reward is a Lucky Trinket.
Understanding the Lucky Trinket
The Lucky Trinket, exclusive to the Tour Pass Deluxe, is a single-use item that transforms a friend (at least Great Friends level) into a Lucky Friend, enabling a Lucky Pokémon trade without needing Best Friend status. Note: Lucky Trinkets obtained during GO Tour: Unova expire on March 9, 2025.
Pokémon GO is available now.
