The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be joining its competitive circuit in the near future. Dive deeper into the details surrounding Pokémon TCG Pocket’s stance on competitive play and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
The Pokémon Company has firmly stated that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be entering the competitive circuit anytime soon. In a recent interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, shared that while they continually assess various titles for inclusion in the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not currently on the agenda.
Brown humorously mentioned "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he made it clear that "at this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
While The Pokémon Company hasn't officially disclosed the reasons for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from competitive play, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released just two sets in its first four months.
Although Pokémon TCG Pocket includes competitive features right from the start, the community has been vocal about ongoing balancing issues. Designed as a more accessible and simplified version of the classic Pokémon card game, Pokémon TCG Pocket prioritizes a beginner-friendly experience over a competitive one.
Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, offering a variety of events for fans, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025, held in Anaheim, California.
