Often living in the shadow of his older twin, Mario, Luigi has carved out his own niche, especially in the ghostbusting adventures of the Luigi's Mansion series. Luigi’s Mansion 3 (2019)
Luigi's first starring role on Switch came in Luigi’s Mansion 3, the third installment of his solo ghostbusting series. In this game, our timid hero, alongside his green gooey clone, teams up with Professor E. Gadd to battle ghosts and rescue his friends from King Boo's haunted hotel.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (2024)
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a high-definition remake of the 2013 Nintendo 3DS game Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. In this sequel, Luigi embarks on a ghostly adventure through the mansions of Evershade Valley to capture King Boo once again and save his brother.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership (2024)
While not solely a Luigi game, Mario & Luigi: Brothership offers equal billing to both brothers. This marks the first new entry in the Mario & Luigi series since Paper Jam in 2014. Players control both Mario and Luigi as they navigate puzzles and platforming challenges to restore the kingdom of Concordia.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (2017)
Luigi was first introduced as a playable character on Switch in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. As a middleweight racer, he offers a well-balanced stat distribution that slightly favors speed and handling. His memorable appearance in an ad for the original Wii U version of Mario Kart 8 led to the popular Luigi Death Stare meme.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (2017)
Luigi next graced the Switch in the Nintendo-Ubisoft collaboration Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This tactical RPG features both Luigi and Rabbid Luigi, who mimics his human counterpart, as potential party members.
Mario Tennis Aces (2018)
Luigi took to the court as one of the 16 playable launch characters in Mario Tennis Aces. Known for his balanced stats in Mario sports games, Luigi's specialty shot, the Pipe Cannon, propels him into the air for a powerful spike.
Super Mario Party (2018)
Luigi is among the 20 playable characters in Super Mario Party. A constant in every Mario Party game, including the two additional titles on this list, Luigi features in the first Switch entry of the series, which ranks as Nintendo's ninth best-selling game on the platform, according to the company.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018)
Luigi is an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one of 12 characters playable across all five Smash games. According to LumiRank’s 2025 tier list, compiled from 93 ranked Smash players, Luigi is rated as an A+-tier fighter and the 18th best overall.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (2019)
Luigi is a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, an enhanced version of the Wii U game that includes the New Super Luigi U expansion. In this expansion, Luigi stars with a higher jump and a 100-second timer per level, adding a unique twist to the gameplay.
Super Mario Maker 2 (2019)
In Super Mario Maker 2, Luigi joins Mario, Toad, and Toadette as one of four playable characters. This level-building platformer lets players create their own Mario levels using assets from various Mario games.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (2021)
Like its Wii U predecessor, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury can be played entirely as Luigi. His gameplay mirrors Mario's, with a slightly higher jump and less traction, making him feel more 'floaty' and 'slippery'.
Mario Golf: Super Rush (2021)
Luigi tees off in Mario Golf: Super Rush alongside other Mario characters. With decent control and excellent speed stats, he's an ideal choice for the new Speed Golf mode. His special shot, the Ice Flower Freeze, creates a hazardous area on impact.
Mario Party Superstars (2021)
Luigi returns in Mario Party Superstars, the second Mario Party game on Switch. Unlike its predecessor, Superstars is a collection of classic minigames, boards, and mechanics from the series’ history.
Mario Strikers: Battle League Football (2022)
Mario Strikers: Battle League Football includes Luigi among its 16 playable characters. Known for his balanced stats, Luigi excels in technique, enhancing his dribbling, shot curving, and shooting accuracy.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (2022)
Luigi, along with Rabbid Luigi, returns in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Labeled as a Sneak Attacker, Luigi leverages his ranged weaponry despite his low health.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder (2023)
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the latest 2D Mario platformer, Luigi offers a visually distinct alternative to Mario, with both characters playing identically.
Super Mario Party Jamboree (2024)
