It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception. Today's Nintendo Direct brought an exciting announcement: Koei Tecmo is developing a new installment in the Hyrule Warriors series titled "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment." This game serves as a prequel to "Tears of the Kingdom" and is slated for release this winter.
"Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment" dives into the ancient history depicted in "Tears of the Kingdom," featuring characters such as Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. The game narrates Zelda's adventures after she travels back in time, where she allies with the last Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to combat Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, including Mineru piloting her mech, Zelda wielding her magic, Rauru with his intriguing sword-spear, and brief glimpses of other Sacred Stone wielders in action.
This marks the third entry in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original "Hyrule Warriors" and "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity," which was a prequel to "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." "Age of Calamity" offered a fresh perspective on the "Breath of the Wild" storyline and was well-received, earning a 9/10 from us for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish." It will be fascinating to see how "Age of Imprisonment" might also diverge from the expected narrative path.
