In the world of Hyper Light Breaker, players encounter a variety of resources, with Golden Rations standing out as the rarest and most crucial for unlocking key upgrades. The game itself offers little guidance on these materials, leaving players to navigate the roguelike experience through trial and error. If you're looking to bypass the guesswork, here’s how you can reliably secure those Golden Rations.
Where to Get Golden Rations
In the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker, there are primarily two methods to acquire Golden Rations: exploration and cycle resets. During your runs, keep an eye out for chest icons on the map. These chests often hold resources vital for purchases or unlocking upgrades, and occasionally, they might contain Golden Rations. You can identify a chest with a ration by the Golden Ration icon displayed above it.
Areas marked with Prisms, signified by a golden diamond icon on the map, are likely to have Golden Ration chests nearby.
Alternatively, you can obtain Golden Rations by triggering a cycle reset. A cycle in Hyper Light Breaker represents each instance of the Overgrowth, resetting when your Rez count hits zero. Upon exhausting your revives, you'll have the choice to either retry the map for resources or opt for a full cycle reset at the Cursed Outpost. After resetting a cycle, you'll receive a score, and achieving a high enough rank can reward you with Golden Rations.
What are Golden Rations For?
Golden Rations serve as a pivotal resource in Hyper Light Breaker, essential for progressing through the game. They are primarily used at your home base to unlock permanent character upgrades or to acquire new services from vendors.
Moreover, Golden Rations are key to unlocking Sycoms, which are crucial items that define your chosen Breaker's stats and core passive ability. Sycoms significantly influence your Breaker's playstyle, making them highly valuable.
When you first acquire a Golden Ration, we strongly recommend investing in the extra medkit upgrade from Pherus Bit. This upgrade can significantly ease future runs, particularly in a game where combat mistakes are heavily penalized.
Should you die during a run, you'll retain any collected resources, but your weapons, amps, and perks will sustain damage, risking permanent destruction.
