Having your own house at the age of 18 might seem like a dream come true—complete independence and a place to call your own, all before you're even old enough to drink in the US! However, in the case of *Your House*, this seemingly cozy home harbors a dark side that you might wish you could escape.
This gripping text-based adventure game puts you in the shoes of Debbie, a young woman who faces a series of misfortunes on her 18th birthday: expulsion from school, betrayal by her best friend, and being struck by a car. With nothing left to lose, Debbie receives a mysterious key and a letter that leads her to the titular house, compelling her to unravel its secrets.
As you navigate through the game, you'll encounter numerous escape room-style puzzles and a mysterious figure lurking on the sidewalk, adding to the suspense. You'll need to use all your ingenuity to ensure Debbie's survival and escape.
The rental market can be murder
While I might be painting *Your House* as more sinister than it truly is, there's no denying its eerie undercurrent. As you delve into the various nooks and crannies of your new home, the game offers plenty of visuals to complement its text-based narrative, making it well worth exploring.
Be prepared for some rapid tapping, though. As noted in Catherine's review, the game's controls can be a bit demanding. However, if you're willing to take your time and carefully examine each screen, you'll find the slow-burn pace rewarding.
