Following recent allegations surrounding his 2020 Twitch ban, Turtle Beach has severed its partnership with Dr Disrespect. The gaming accessory manufacturer had a long-standing relationship with the streamer, including a collaborative headset release.
The allegations, stemming from claims by a former Twitch employee, Cody Conners, involve Dr Disrespect's alleged use of Twitch's Whispers feature for inappropriate communication with a minor. These claims, which Dr Disrespect denies, have prompted a reassessment of partnerships.
Turtle Beach's decision to end its association comes after a multi-year sponsorship deal and the release of a Dr Disrespect-themed headset. The streamer's merchandise page on Turtle Beach's website has since been removed. This action follows a similar move by Midnight Society, a game studio co-founded by Dr Disrespect, which also terminated its relationship with him.
Dr Disrespect maintains his innocence, asserting that no wrongdoing was involved in his Twitch ban and that the matter was resolved in 2020. He has also announced a temporary break from streaming, citing the need for a vacation. The duration of his hiatus and his future plans remain unclear. The situation highlights the significant impact of such allegations on professional relationships within the gaming industry.
