Dragon Quest XII: Details Unveiled Gradually

Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with information to be revealed gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.

This update follows a May 2024 announcement acknowledging the passing of Dragon Quest character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama, and the departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division. Previous concerns regarding the game's cancellation, fueled by Square Enix restructuring and a lack of updates, seem to be alleviated by Horii's statement.

The only visual we have of Dragon Quest XII is this logo, unveiled in 2021.

Announced as part of the franchise's 35th-anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest XII will be the first mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has since reported that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales expectations, reaching 2 million copies sold.
