David Fincher and Brad Pitt are set to collaborate once again, this time to bring to life a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. According to The Playlist, the duo is working to develop this unexpected project for Netflix, further cementing Fincher's strong relationship with the streaming platform. If all goes as planned, the currently untitled sequel will feature Brad Pitt reprising his role as the stunt double, Cliff Booth.
The screenplay, which Fincher acquired, is an evolved version of Tarantino's previously shelved project, The Movie Critic, which was once slated to be Tarantino's final film. Despite shelving The Movie Critic, Tarantino was keen on not letting the concept fade away and handed the script over to Fincher to direct.
The Playlist reports that Netflix has acquired the screenplay for $20 million, with a hefty budget of $200 million set aside for production. Filming is scheduled to begin in California in July, just three months away. While no other casting details have been confirmed, it is known that Leonardo DiCaprio will not return as Rick Dalton. Both Fincher and Pitt are fully committed to this project, sidelining all other work to focus on it.
Deadline has confirmed The Playlist's report, adding that Pitt received Tarantino's approval to present the script to Fincher, leading to this surprising development.
