Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is set to delay its first in-game event to prioritize essential quality-of-life improvements. On February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games released a Development Roadmap that outlined the upcoming changes for Civ 7.
The next update, version 1.1.0, is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a separate release date for the Nintendo Switch. Originally, the game's first event, the Natural Wonder Battle, was slated for this update. However, Firaxis Games announced, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access launch, the game has received mixed reviews, particularly concerning its user interface (UI). Firaxis has acknowledged this feedback, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized their commitment to enhancing the game, saying, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The upcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 is geared towards addressing community feedback and suggestions. While the full patch notes will be released upon launch, Firaxis has provided a preview of what players can expect.
A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be introduced for free exploration. The most anticipated update includes significant UI enhancements, directly responding to player concerns. Additionally, there will be substantial changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory mechanics, with AI leaders now better equipped to achieve a Cultural Victory.
Alongside these updates, the first part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will become available. Firaxis stated, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The next major update for Civ 7 is scheduled for March 25, 2025, although this date may be subject to change. The focus will continue to be on improving the game’s UI, as Firaxis emphasized, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continue to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond the March updates, Civ 7 plans to introduce further enhancements and refinements. These include a "one more turn" feature to extend gameplay beyond the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and improvements to multiplayer support.
Firaxis commented, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
