Another mobile game has met its end, and this time it's Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator that has announced its End of Service (EOS). Koei Tecmo and Akatsuki Games have recently shared the news that their RPG will be shutting down soon, but this closure only affects the global version. Launched globally in January 2024, the game struggled to gain traction, leading to this unfortunate decision. We'll delve into the reasons behind the EOS later in this article.
It's worth noting that the Japanese version of Atelier Resleriana is still going strong with no plans to shut down. Launched in September 2023, it's preparing to celebrate its 1.5th anniversary in March 2025, which adds a layer of irony to the situation. Why? The answer lies in the timing of the global version's EOS.
When Is the Atelier Resleriana EOS?
The global version of Atelier Resleriana will cease operations on the same month the Japanese version celebrates its 1.5th anniversary, adding to the irony. The exact date for the EOS is set for March 28th, 2025. While Japanese players will be enjoying Chapter 22 (Part 2), global players will be concluding their journey with Chapter 21 (Part 1).
The in-game purchase system has already been disabled, but players can still use their Lodestar Gems until the game's final moments. Koei Tecmo has committed to providing new content and events leading up to the shutdown.
Adding to the irony, the global version just celebrated its first anniversary on January 25th. So, it's a bittersweet "happy anniversary" as players prepare to say goodbye.
Why Is It Shutting Down?
The developers have released a notice stating that after evaluating their inability to maintain the game at a satisfactory level for players, they've decided to shut it down. This decision reflects the game's struggle to make a significant impact on its player base.
Just a couple of months after its launch, players began voicing concerns about the gacha system, which was a major point of contention. While the main characters were well-received, the gameplay and monetization strategies, coupled with severe power creep, failed to retain players' interest.
These factors ultimately led to the announcement of the EOS for the global version of Atelier Resleriana. If you wish to bid farewell to the game, you can find it on the Google Play Store.
