In 2020, a Batman: Arkham Knight fan battling schizophrenia commissioned a short video message from Kevin Conroy through the Cameo service. Anticipating a typical 30-second greeting, he instead received over six minutes of profoundly encouraging words. Deeply touched by the fan's story, Conroy went far beyond a standard response, creating a message that proved a lifeline during the fan's most challenging times.
A moving Reddit post detailed the gamer's experience. After completing Batman: Arkham Knight, the fan was deeply affected by the game's conclusion, where Batman confronts his own fears, paranoia, and hallucinations—a powerful parallel to the fan's struggle with schizophrenia. Expressing his gratitude, he contacted Conroy, sharing his condition and how the Dark Knight's journey resonated with his own.
Expecting a brief Cameo response, he was overwhelmed by Conroy's heartfelt and extensive message of support and understanding.
“This video has saved me from suicide countless times,” the fan wrote. “Hearing Batman say he believed in me was incredibly powerful… But as time went on, it became just as important that it was Kevin himself who believed in me.”
Initially hesitant to share the video publicly, the fan ultimately decided to post it after learning that Conroy had a brother who also lived with schizophrenia. He hoped the video would offer similar comfort and inspiration to others.
“If someone in his family asks me to delete this video, I will of course do so,” the fan stated. “But it has inspired me in my toughest moments, and maybe it will inspire someone else. Hang in there. Because Batman believes in you.”
The legendary Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman, sadly passed away on November 10, 2022, at the age of 66. However, his words and enduring legacy continue to inspire millions worldwide.
