The trailer not only reveals the new Xenomorph design but also captures the essence of Ridley Scott's 1979 horror classic, Alien. Fans will notice the striking similarity to the Nostromo's MU/TH/UR control room, a nod to the original film's setting where Ripley uncovered the dire circumstances facing her crew.
In the trailer, a frantic crew member is seen desperately seeking help as the Xenomorph begins its deadly work. Meanwhile, Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, appears detached from the chaos, reporting that the "specimens are loose" and declaring the crew dead. He sets the ship's trajectory towards Earth, setting the stage for a catastrophic event. The trailer also introduces six soldiers approaching what is presumably the crash site of the doomed vessel, hinting at the perilous encounters that await them.
The trailer raises numerous intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives his actions? Did any other crew members escape the Xenomorph's wrath? Are there any survivors carrying the alien's deadly offspring? And what fate awaits the soldiers as they confront the crashed ship?
Alien: Earth sets up a gripping narrative where a mysterious spacecraft crashes on Earth. Sydney Chandler plays a young woman who, alongside a group of tactical soldiers, makes a "fateful discovery" that brings them face-to-face with Earth's most formidable threat.
Set in the year 2120, Alien: Earth takes place between the events of Prometheus and Alien, fueling speculation that the series might depict the Nostromo's departure from Earth or shed light on Weyland-Yutani's discovery of the Xenomorphs. The recently released Alien: Romulus, which takes place between Alien and Aliens, adds further context to the timeline.
Showrunner Noah Hawley, in a January statement last year, explained his decision to diverge from the backstory established in Prometheus. Hawley, who consulted with Ridley Scott on numerous aspects of the Alien series, opted for the "retro-futurism" of the original films over the bioweapon narrative introduced in the prequels.
Alien: Earth is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Fans can also look forward to the upcoming Alien: Romulus 2.
