Ace Attorney Investigations Collection Lands on Mobile with Updated Features

Author : Andrew Update:Jan 17,2025

Hello fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Roundup for September 4th, 2024! Summer's over, but the memories remain. I've learned a thing or two, and I'm thankful for your company. Let's dive into this week's gaming goodness – reviews, new releases, and sales galore!

Reviews & Mini-Views

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection ($39.99)

The Switch has given us second chances at classic titles, and this Ace Attorney collection is a prime example. Finally, the previously unlocalized Miles Edgeworth adventures are here! This sequel cleverly expands on earlier storylines, enhancing the original game.

Shifting to the prosecution's perspective offers a fresh take on the familiar gameplay. Search for clues, interrogate witnesses, and solve cases. The unique presentation and Edgeworth's personality add a new dimension. While the pacing can feel uneven at times, fans of the main series will appreciate this spin-off. If the first game feels slow, persevere – the second is significantly better.

Bonus features include an art and music gallery, a story mode, and the option to switch between original and updated graphics/soundtracks. A helpful dialogue history feature is also included.

The Ace Attorney Investigations Collection is a fantastic package, offering a compelling contrast between the two games. With this release, almost every Ace Attorney game is now available on Switch. If you've enjoyed the other titles, this is a must-have.

SwitchArcade Score: 4.5/5

Gimmick! 2 ($24.99)

A sequel to the obscure NES title Gimmick!? It's surprising, but welcome! Developed by Bitwave Games, this sequel stays true to the original, perhaps even too much for some. Six challenging physics-based platforming levels await, pushing players to their limits. A new easier mode is available for those seeking a less punishing experience.

The protagonist's star attack returns, serving as a weapon and puzzle-solving tool. Collectibles add replayability, unlocking customization options. The game is challenging but fair, thanks to generous checkpoints. The charming visuals and music help offset the difficulty.

While not overly long, the difficulty remains high. Fans of the original will love this sequel, and challenging platformer enthusiasts should definitely check it out. However, casual gamers might find it too difficult, even on the easier setting.

SwitchArcade Score: 4.5/5

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A bold departure from the original Valfaris, Mecha Therion is a shoot 'em up. The Switch's hardware might struggle at times, but the intense action, soundtrack, and visuals still deliver. The weapon system is well-designed, requiring players to juggle gun, melee, and a rotating third weapon. Mastering this rhythm is key.

While different from the original, Mecha Therion maintains a similar atmosphere. It's a stylish, heavy metal shoot 'em up that avoids many genre clichés. While performance is better on other platforms, the Switch version is still enjoyable.

SwitchArcade Score: 4/5

Umamusume: Pretty Derby – Party Dash ($44.99)

This licensed game is clearly aimed at fans. The writing and meta-systems will please Umamusume enthusiasts. However, non-fans will find limited appeal in the repetitive mini-games. The unlockable mini-game is the highlight, but the overall experience is short-lived.

Even for fans, the game might not offer enough lasting value. The visuals and audio are well-done, and the unlockables might keep dedicated fans engaged. But overall, it's a shallow experience lacking staying power.

SwitchArcade Score: 3/5

Sunsoft is Back! Retro Game Selection ($9.99)

This collection showcases Sunsoft's lesser-known 8-bit games. It includes Firework Thrower Kantaro’s 53 Stations of the Tokaido, Ripple Island, and The Wing of Madoola. All three games feature save states, rewind, display options, and a gallery. The full localization is a significant achievement.

The games are a mixed bag. 53 Stations is frustrating, Ripple Island is a decent adventure, and The Wing of Madoola is ambitious but uneven. None are top-tier, but they offer a unique glimpse into Sunsoft's history. Fans of retro games and Sunsoft will appreciate this collection.

SwitchArcade Score: 4/5
