Serial Cleaner, the quirky crime-scene cleanup puzzler, is making a comeback! Originally released in 2019, this title is returning, but the extent of the updates remains a mystery. Will it be a refined re-release, or simply a modernized port? Only time will tell.
The game throws you into the gritty, yet cartoonish, 1970s. Think urban decay, stylish gangs, improbable events (turkeys falling from the sky, anyone?), and the cinematic cliché of killer sharks. As Bob Leaner, your job is to clean up after the mob's messy business – disposing of bodies, erasing bloodstains, and generally concealing evidence. All while dodging the police, naturally.
Our 2019 review described the original Serial Cleaner as promising but unfinished. Developer Plug-in Digital is now self-publishing the mobile version, suggesting a chance to rectify past shortcomings.
A Funky Revival?
Pre-registration is open, with a February 11th, 2025 release date. While the extent of improvements is unclear, a polished re-release would be welcome given the mixed initial reception. However, the considerable time elapsed since the original launch makes significant enhancements seem unlikely.
Despite this, the core concept remains captivating. However, a simple mobile port does dampen expectations slightly. For Android users who missed out, or iOS players experiencing compatibility issues, this could be a pleasant surprise.
