Prominent YouTuber Faces Kidnapping Charges

Summary

  • Popular YouTuber Corey Pritchett is charged with aggravated kidnapping and has left the US.
  • Pritchett posted a video from abroad, making light of the charges and his flight.
  • His return to the US and the case's outcome are currently unknown.

Corey Pritchett, a well-known YouTube content creator, faces serious accusations: two counts of aggravated kidnapping. Reports indicate he departed the country shortly after the charges were filed, surprising his substantial online following.

For those unfamiliar, Pritchett is an American social media personality known for his engaging content. His YouTube career began in 2016, featuring family vlogs, challenges, and pranks. While not a top-tier YouTuber, he commands a significant audience, with approximately 4 million subscribers on his main channel, "CoreySSG," and over 1 million on "CoreySSG Live." One particularly popular video, "LET’S HAVE A BABY PRANK," boasts over 12 million views.

Pritchett's legal troubles stem from an alleged kidnapping incident on November 24, 2024, in southwest Houston. According to ABC13, he met two women, aged 19 and 20, at a gym. After a day of activities including ATV riding and bowling, the situation escalated. Pritchett allegedly threatened them at gunpoint, speeding on I-10 while confiscating their phones and claiming he intended to kill them. The women reported Pritchett appeared anxious, believing someone was targeting him, and mentioned prior accusations of arson.

Pritchett's Flight and Mocking Video

After stopping his vehicle, Pritchett reportedly allowed the women to escape. They walked for over an hour before finding help and contacting authorities. Charged on December 26, 2024, with two counts of aggravated kidnapping, Pritchett had already fled to Doha, Qatar, on December 9th, possessing a one-way ticket. He's now reportedly in Dubai, where he released a video mocking the warrants, portraying himself as a fugitive and joking about the situation. This contrasts with the serious nature of the allegations, similar to the unrelated case of former YouTuber Johnny Somali, facing potential imprisonment in South Korea.

The resolution of Pritchett's case remains uncertain; his potential return to the US is unknown. It's worth noting the 2023 kidnapping and subsequent release of YouTuber YourFellowArab in Haiti, who later documented his ordeal with a Haitian gang. This highlights the unpredictable dangers faced by some online personalities.
