NetEase's Ananta: A New Name, a New Trailer, and a Mystery
Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain? It's officially been rebranded as Ananta. First unveiled at Gamescom 2023, the game has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence, promising further details on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the teaser:
The Name Change Enigma
Developers haven't yet explained the name change. Interestingly, both "Ananta" (Sanskrit for infinite) and "Mugen" (Japanese for infinite) share the same meaning. The Chinese title further reinforces this concept.
While the gaming community is divided on the rebranding, the continued development is a welcome relief. Comparisons to Hotta Studio's Neverness to Everness are already surfacing. Ananta's trailer, though visually stunning, lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a potential edge for some players. However, Ananta's aesthetic appeal is undeniable.
A Curious Deletion
Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the title change. This puzzling decision has sparked considerable confusion amongst fans.
Ananta's Premise
In Ananta, players embody an "Infinite Trigger," a paranormal investigator battling supernatural chaos. The cast includes characters such as Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila. Visit the official website for more details on gameplay mechanics.
