Pokémon Paralyzed by Ability: Cards & Guide

Author : Nora Update:Jan 03,2025

This guide explores the Paralyze condition in Pokémon TCG Pocket, explaining its mechanics and how to utilize it effectively. The guide is structured with quick links for easy navigation.

Quick Links

Pokémon TCG Pocket replicates the Paralyze effect from the physical card game, albeit with slight adjustments. This guide details its function, cures, and strategic applications in deck building.

What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralyzed Status

The Paralyzed condition immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a single turn, preventing attacks and retreats. The effect automatically dissipates before the opponent's next turn.

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyze and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyze automatically resolves after the next Checkup, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific strategies to cure.

Paralyze in Pocket vs. Physical TCG

Unlike the physical TCG where cards like Full Heal remove Paralysis, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks direct counters. The core mechanic—immobility for one turn—remains consistent.

Which Cards Inflict Paralysis?

Cards with Paralyze

In the Genetic Apex expansion, only three Pokémon can inflict Paralysis: Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno. All three rely on a coin flip, making Paralysis a somewhat unpredictable effect.

How to Recover from Paralyzed?

Curing Paralysis

Four methods exist to cure Paralysis:

  1. Automatic Resolution: The effect ends at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the affected Pokémon instantly removes Paralysis.
  3. Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the condition (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers a counter, but only under specific conditions (Weezing or Muk).

Building a Paralyze Deck

Sample Paralyze Deck

Paralysis alone is not a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep, as in an Articuno & Frosmoth deck, is more effective. This deck utilizes Articuno, Frosmoth, and Wigglytuff ex to apply both conditions.

Sample Paralyze-Asleep Deck List

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
Articuno 2
Misty 2
Sabrina 2
X Speed 2
Professor's Research 2
Poke Ball 2
