Minecraft's Simple Screen Partitioning

Author : Eric Update:Feb 02,2025

Experience the nostalgic joy of couch co-op gaming with Minecraft! This guide details how to set up split-screen gameplay on your Xbox One or other compatible consoles. Gather your friends, prepare your snacks, and let's get started!

Important Considerations:

Minecraft split-screen is exclusively available on consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch). PC players are unfortunately excluded from this feature. Ensure your TV or monitor supports HD (720p) resolution, and that your console is capable of outputting this resolution. HDMI connection is recommended for automatic resolution adjustment; VGA may require manual configuration within your console's settings.

Local Split-Screen Gameplay (Up to 4 Players):

  1. Connect your console: Use an HDMI cable to connect your console to your HDTV.
  2. Launch Minecraft: Start Minecraft and select "New Game" or load an existing world. Crucially, disable multiplayer in the game settings.
  3. Configure your world: Choose your difficulty, game mode, and world settings. Skip this if loading a pre-existing world.
  4. Activate additional players: Once the game loads, press the appropriate button to add players. This is typically the "Options" button (PS) or "Start" button (Xbox), often requiring a double-press.
  5. Player login: Each additional player needs to log into their respective Minecraft account.
  6. Enjoy split-screen! The screen will automatically divide into sections (2-4 players).

Online Multiplayer with Local Split-Screen:

While you can't directly split-screen with remote online players, you can combine local split-screen with online multiplayer. Follow steps 1-3 above, but enable multiplayer in the game settings. Then, invite your online friends to join your game.

Minecraft's split-screen functionality makes it a fantastic couch co-op experience. Enjoy the adventure with friends!
