Marvel Rivals Donald Trump Mod Reportedly Banned

Summary

  • A Donald Trump mod for Marvel Rivals appears to have been banned due to sociopolitical issues, violating Nexus Mods rules.
  • NetEase Games, developer of Marvel Rivals, hasn't responded to issues over character mods.

A controversial Donald Trump mod for Marvel Rivals has reportedly been banned. Since launching almost a month ago, Marvel Rivals has earned millions of players around the world, who are mastering different Marvel heroes to reach the top of the ranks.

As a hero shooter, Marvel Rivals offers a fun experience where players can discover smart strategies and use unique interactions between characters to win matches. Meanwhile, other players have been enhancing their gameplay by using Marvel Rivals mods to change the heroes' models. This has ranged from adding different skins from Marvel Comics and movies, to adding Fortnite models of Captain America and Spider-Man over the default units.

One Nexus Mods user recently uploaded a Donald Trump mod for one of Marvel Rivals' popular Vanguards, Captain America. It made the rounds on social media, with some even looking for players with the Joe Biden mod, so they could queue up in a match. However, Nexus Mods seems to have banned and removed the Trump mod because players are directed to an error page that says it can't be found on the site. Likewise, the Biden mod is also unsearchable on the website.

Why Was the Donald Trump Marvel Rivals Mod Removed?

Back in 2020, Nexus Mods released a blog stating that it would ban mods relating to sociopolitical issues in the United States, and encouraged users to report any mods that would violate this rule. This announcement was around the same time as the highly-contested election between then-incumbent President Trump and his challenger Biden, who eventually won the race.

Over on social media, many Marvel Rivals fans weren't surprised that the mod got banned, mostly pointing out how Captain America's model wasn't suitable for Trump. Meanwhile, a select few seemed displeased that Nexus Mods is banning any political imagery from its site. This isn't the first time that Trump has been used for a video game mod. Although many have probably been removed from Nexus Mods, there are still mods available for Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2 that feature the controversial figure.

On the other hand, Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games hasn't addressed any issues regarding the use of character mods in the game, especially ones that depict controversial and/or political people. Since it is still a new game, NetEase has been managing different problems, such as fixing any gameplay bugs and lifting false bans on Marvel Rivals players.
