Cookie Run: Kingdom's Version 5.6 update, "Dark Resolution's Glorious Return," is a double-edged sword. While brimming with new content, a controversial rarity system initially sparked significant backlash.
This update, following Version 5.5, introduces a wealth of new features: Cookies, story episodes, limited-time events, toppings, and treasures. Let's examine the good and the bad.
The Positives of Version 5.6:
The update stars Dragon Lord Dark Cacao Cookie, an Ancient+ rarity Cookie (we'll discuss the rarity issue shortly). This Charge-type, front-line fighter boasts an Awakened King skill that unleashes devastating attacks, inflicting fatal wounds and a CRIT Resist debuff. He also combines with Twin Dragons for powerful joint strikes.
A special gacha, the Nether-Gacha: Light of True Resolution, increases the chances of obtaining Dragon Lord Dark Cacao Cookie, guaranteeing him every 250 pulls. Even without 250 pulls, players receive rewards like Light of True Resolution items or Dragon Lord Dark Cacao Cookie Soulstones.
Peach Blossom Cookie, a new Epic Support Cookie, joins the fray. Her Heavenly Fruit skill heals allies and provides Peach Bao fruits that boost DMG Resist and Debuff Resist.
A new World Exploration episode, "Dark Resolution's Glorious Return," continues Dark Cacao Cookie's story, featuring Yin and Yang battle stages.
The Controversial Ancient+ Rarity:
The introduction of the Ancient+ rarity, with a maximum 6-star promotion level, proved highly unpopular. This addition, the eleventh rarity in the game, angered many players who felt it was unnecessary and unfair, especially for newer players. Instead of enhancing existing characters, the developers opted for entirely new, higher-rarity Cookies.
The Backlash and Developer Response:
The Korean Cookie Run community and prominent guilds threatened a boycott, prompting the developers to postpone the update (originally scheduled for June 20th) to reconsider the Ancient+ rarity system. An official tweet confirmed the delay.
