Firaxis Games, developers of Civilization VII, have indicated a potential return of Gandhi as a leader, likely via future DLC. This follows an IGN interview where lead designer Ed Beach addressed the absence of several familiar civilizations and leaders from the base game.
Civilization VII: The Gandhi Question
In a February 13, 2025 IGN interview, Beach confirmed that the omission of leaders like Gandhi wasn't due to oversight. Instead, the decision stemmed from the sheer number of popular choices, necessitating the exclusion of some to make room for new, exciting additions. He assured fans that previously featured civilizations are not forgotten and are being considered for future inclusion.
Beach specifically mentioned the absence of Great Britain and India, explaining the difficult choices involved in balancing established favorites with fresh content. While no concrete timeline exists for Gandhi's return, the precedent set by Civilization VI's extensive DLC suggests a strong possibility. The wait for Gandhi's reappearance in Civ VII remains, but hope remains strong.
