Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles features a surprising playable character: Jar Jar Binks. This revelation, accompanied by a new gameplay trailer, showcases Binks wielding a large staff and utilizing his characteristically chaotic fighting style.
The 2000 original featured iconic characters and locations from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. This updated version aims to recapture that nostalgia while adding new content. Beyond lightsaber color customization and cheat code support, a roster of new playable characters has been announced, with Binks being the latest addition.
The trailer highlights Binks' in-game antics, dispelling any hopes (however unrealistic) of a Darth Jar Jar-esque red lightsaber wielding character. Instead, he utilizes a staff and his signature comedic vocalizations. Jar Jar Binks will be available when Jedi Power Battles launches on January 23rd; pre-orders are currently open.
Newly Revealed Playable Characters:
- Jar Jar Binks
- Rodian
- Flame Droid
- Gungan Guard
- Destroyer Droid
- Ishi Tib
- Rifle Droid
- Staff Tusken Raider
- Weequay
- Mercenary
Aspyr has confirmed that numerous additional playable characters are planned for the game's release on modern platforms, expanding on the already impressive selection. This diverse range of characters includes familiar faces like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian, as well as various droid types. The inclusion of both Jar Jar Binks and the Gungan Guard demonstrates a commitment to variety within the Gungan faction.
With the release date fast approaching, fans eagerly anticipate experiencing these new additions to Jedi Power Battles. Aspyr’s past work on other classic Star Wars game re-releases, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, offers a promising precedent for this updated version, hopefully delivering the nostalgic experience fans desire.
