Daredevil: Born Again's New Trailer Hints at an Unlikely Alliance

A new trailer for Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th on Disney+, reveals a surprising twist: Daredevil and Kingpin, longtime adversaries, are seemingly collaborating. This collaboration is likely fueled by a shared enemy: the art-obsessed serial killer, Muse.

Who is Muse?

Muse, a relatively recent addition to Daredevil's rogue's gallery, debuted in 2016's Daredevil #11. Created by Charles Soule and Ron Garney, this villain views murder as the ultimate artistic expression. His methods are gruesome, ranging from blood murals to meticulously posed corpses. He's particularly dangerous to Daredevil due to his ability to disrupt Matt Murdock's radar sense. Possessing superhuman strength and speed, Muse is a formidable foe.

Muse's initial conflict with Daredevil and Blindspot escalates when he blinds Blindspot. After his capture, Muse self-mutilates to prevent further artistic creation, only to later escape and continue his killing spree. His obsession with vigilantes, particularly the Punisher, further complicates matters, especially with Mayor Wilson Fisk's anti-vigilante campaign. Ultimately, in Daredevil #600, Muse commits suicide. However, his return in the MCU is highly anticipated.

Muse in Daredevil: Born Again

The Daredevil: Born Again trailer confirms Muse's appearance, sporting a costume mirroring his comic book counterpart: a white mask and bodysuit with red "tears." His presence suggests the series draws inspiration from contemporary Daredevil comics, rather than solely relying on the 1986 Born Again storyline. While the original comic focuses on Fisk's discovery of Daredevil's identity, the show appears to take a different path, leveraging the existing knowledge of Daredevil's identity within the MCU.

The trailer showcases a meeting between Daredevil and Fisk, hinting at an uneasy alliance. The implication is that a significant threat, potentially Muse, necessitates their collaboration.

The Common Enemy

Could Muse be the unifying factor? The series seems to be building towards a narrative influenced by Soule and Zdarsky's Daredevil comics. With Fisk elected mayor and campaigning against vigilantism, Muse's actions directly oppose his agenda. Muse's glorification of vigilantes like the Punisher further fuels the conflict.

Daredevil's desire to apprehend a ruthless killer aligns with Fisk's need to eliminate a threat to his mayoral authority. This compels an unlikely alliance, forcing Daredevil to cooperate with the very man who seeks to eradicate his kind. The series will likely also feature other vigilantes like the Punisher and White Tiger, caught in the crossfire of Fisk's crusade.

Conclusion

While the Daredevil/Fisk rivalry remains central, Muse emerges as the immediate threat. His powers and bloodlust make him a formidable opponent, forcing Daredevil into an uncomfortable alliance with Mayor Fisk. The Daredevil: Born Again series promises a thrilling narrative built on unexpected partnerships and high stakes.
