Nexus Mods, a popular modding platform, finds itself at the center of a heated debate after removing over 500 user-submitted modifications for the game Marvel Rivals in a single month. The controversy ignited when mods replacing Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump were taken down.
The platform's owner, known as TheDarkOne, clarified the situation on Reddit, stating that both mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political bias. TheDarkOne noted a curious silence from YouTube commentators regarding the simultaneous removal.
However, the fallout continued. TheDarkOne reported receiving a barrage of threats and hateful messages following the removal, including death threats and accusations of pedophilia.
This isn't an isolated incident for Nexus Mods. In 2022, a similar controversy erupted when a Spider-Man Remastered mod replacing rainbow flags with American flags was removed. The platform's stance on inclusivity and its policy of removing content deemed anti-diversity were publicly affirmed at that time.
TheDarkOne concluded with a statement expressing a lack of tolerance for those who oppose the platform's policies.
