Street Fighter 6 welcomes a new fighter, reigniting player interest. The latest addition is Mai Shiranui, a popular character from the Fatal Fury franchise.
Capcom's Street Fighter 6, a major success, boasted 4.4 million copies sold by December 31, 2024. While some fans felt content updates were slow, the introduction of Mai Shiranui has proven a significant boost.
Mai Shiranui, the third Season 2 character, dramatically impacted Street Fighter 6's popularity. Her release day saw Steam's peak online player count surge past 63,000 (compared to the previous peak of 24-27,000), marking the game's best online performance since May 2024.
Access to Mai is granted via the Battle Pass. World Tour mode allows players to build relationships with Mai, learn her moves, and subsequently test them in Battle Hub. A second costume, inspired by her Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves design, has also been released.
A temporary addition to Battle Hub is Professor Woshige, a renowned fighting game developer. Players can experience his unique fighting style until March 10th. The update also includes new Master League ranks and associated rewards.
Capcom showcased Mai's fighting prowess in a dedicated trailer.
