Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
One of the initial hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the formidable Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for victory.
Phase 1: A One-on-One Duel
This phase unfolds in a vast wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, launching stones across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance:
- Close Range: Four stones are summoned, demanding swift evasion.
- Long Range: Eight stones are hurled in pairs, easily dodged by circling him.
Maintain a safe distance when he summons numerous stones to avoid heavy damage. While primarily a ranged fighter, he also utilizes close-combat combos (parryable) and an area-of-effect (AOE) pushback attack. A white glow signals his AOE charge; retreat immediately.
His red-aura attacks are unblockable. These involve massive rockfalls and clone summoning. The best counter is to maintain distance until the attack concludes. Equip a sword for optimal damage output.
Resource Management is Crucial: You likely have limited healing opportunities (around four uses depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are strategically placed near the arena entrance; utilize them during breaks in the fight.
Phase 2: A Clash of Armies
Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army arrives to assist, providing respite and healing opportunities (grab those meat buns!). Zhang Jiao introduces tornadoes to disrupt your attacks; be mindful of the wind currents.
Defeating sufficient soldiers triggers Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic. You must eliminate 300 soldiers within a short timeframe to prevent a devastating attack. He will also summon lightning strikes; observe the warning ring on the ground and evade when it flashes. Musou Mode (basic, not Rage) is highly effective for quickly dispatching large groups of soldiers.
Successfully thwarting his Grand Tactic twice brings Zhang Jiao back to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. However, with your army's support, eliminating his remaining health should be straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.
Victory Achieved!
By employing these strategies, you can successfully defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
