TennoCon 2024 delivered some incredible news, most notably the upcoming Warframe: 1999 update. This massive expansion promises a thrilling journey back to a retro-futuristic 1999, fraught with Y2K-themed dangers.

Before the main event arrives in Winter 2024, a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launches in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved Warframe character, this prologue sets the stage for the 1999 adventure and introduces Sevatgoth Prime and their unique weaponry. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999.

Warframe: 1999 plunges players into a Techrot-infested 1990s city, Höllvania, on an alternate Earth where the Y2K bug manifests as a deadly virus. Players navigate this retro-cyberpunk landscape using new Atomicyles, vehicles offering bullet jumps, drifts, and explosive capabilities. Six playable characters, the Hex, pilot these vehicles, each sporting a Protoframe, a Warframe design revealing the human pilot beneath.

The Hex team boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Players can interact with the characters via in-game instant messaging, adding a unique social element to the experience.

Adding to the 90s atmosphere, players will face off against On-lyne, a Technocyte-infected boy band led by the charismatic Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides). Their infectiously catchy music will be available on major streaming platforms.

Fashion takes center stage with enhanced customization options. Players can equip two fashion frame loadouts and utilize new Gemini Skins to bring the Protoframes, like Arthur and Aoi, into the Origin System. These skins feature fully voiced lines for combat and idle interactions, maximizing the impact of the impressive voice acting talent.

Beyond Warframe: 1999, Digital Extremes announced a collaboration with THE LINE animation studio for a related anime short, launching later this year. Additionally, new Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (coming early 2025) are on the way.
